Random Thoughts Monday v9.0

How to prepare for a week spent away from your usual routine, that is the question.  I have 5 days to finish preparing for my week long Nia White Belt Intensive Training and I’m going to use every minute.  I’m a planner and a worrier, typical mom for sure.  My goal this week is to plan and bring myself to a mostly stress free state, so my mind and heart will be ready for my week in training.

Here are my current random thoughts:

  • Finish writing up Grandparent friendly instructions for handling your kids for a week- a long work in progress, I’ll never ever be done, several pages of notes is probably good, they do know my kids after all
  • Nothing much smells better than making homemade applesauce.  Yesterday I finally got around to cooking down all the apples I’ve been collecting over the last couple of weeks.  I’m working on a post with my tips for great homemade applesauce, I put several on twitter last night, are you following me? Anywho, I hope to have my applesauce post out soon
  • Pick out clothes for next week- done
  • My Lions didn’t play yesterday, my whole week feels off
  • Plan breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinners to go- almost done
  • My husband has been slowly realizing that he can like bands and comedians he likes on Facebook, which means he’s now getting updates on Facebook that he really really likes to read.  Facebook just became a lot more relevent in his book.  How do you use Facebook, is it just for friends/family, is it for networking, do you use it to follow your favorite artists and authors?
  • Ensure my grocery list has everything I & the family will need for this week and next- sort of started
  • Twilight: Breaking Dawn part 1 comes out next Friday.  Here is how I know I love Nia, I’m not upset that I will be in training the day the movie releases and wont get home until after my dear husband has left for work…which means I may not see the movie until after Thanksgiving 🙂 oh I am fully aware that I am a dork.  Do any of you like the Twilight books and or movies, I’m not alone here, right?  Come on, I admitted to liking them, you can too.
  • Finish planning, relax and enjoy my week of training- not started yet, but I will definitely get it done!!!

Have a fantastic week everyone.  I’ll be back on Wednesday for another scale day and then I will be off to live Nia starting on Saturday.  Not sure if you’ll see a post from me next week, but I will be collecting my thoughts and post them if not next week, then for sure when my Nia week is done. Oh and I’m not even thinking about how after my Nia week it will be the week of Thanksgiving, no I’m not even going there.

Scale Day v12.0

I wish I could tell you that I was not nervous for my scheduled date with the scale this morning.  I was a bit terrified actually.  No the result wasn’t going to halt any efforts, if anything a gain or non-loss would get me to work harder.  But I am already working hard and I so badly wanted a loss this week.  My nerves were caused by my pattern over the last three weeks, +0.4 > – 3.1 > -0.1.  I had really no idea what the scale would say, I hate not knowing!!!

Today is not only scale day, it is also measurement day.  Before going to bed last night I did a few measurements, was hoping for some good news and boy did I find some!!!  I lost a 1/2 inch on my hips and just over 1 1/2 inches on my waist!!!  I did finally start losing at the bust line, 1/2 and inch, oh well, it was bound to happen.  Since the beginning (June) I’ve lost just over 3 1/2 inches on my waist, 2 1/2 on my hips and  1 1/2 inches on my thighs!!!

The measurements certainly helped my nerves but I was still a bit of a wreck to pull out the scale.  I did get up on time this morning and got right to business.  I lost!!!  1.8 pounds, I was so relieved, that brings my 4 weeks loss to 4.6 pounds, not where I had wanted it, but still pretty awesome.  My overall loss is now 13.9 pounds, my total weight is 151.2 and BMI is 27.7.  After I lose 3.6 more pounds I will reach my 1/2 point to my final goal, which is exciting.  I can’t wait to be in the 2nd half of this journey.  Next week I hope to be under 150, which was what I weighed when I got pregnant with my first son.  Getting under that first pregnancy weight is such a huge milestone for me, I want it real bad.

Last week I made my first attempt at a #7DayChip and I was unsuccessful.  Since I’ve been making good food/portion choices for a while, my challenge was to fill 1/2 my plate with fruits and veggies.  I did well at first and then I didn’t.  I’m trying again this week.  After shopping yesterday my fridge is stocked a little better to help me reach this goal.

One last thought I wanted to share.  Now that I’m drinking water regularly and more than ever before, I find I get dehydrated easier.  It does make sense that if you are not retaining water and you eat a little saltier or drink a little slower that you will get dehydrated easier.  I’m now more conscious of my salt intake and the pace at which I drink water.  I’m listening a little closer to my body’s clues, because they are there, screaming at me.  All you have to do is listen AND act.

Random Thoughts Monday v2.0

Happy Monday everyone, hope you’re feeling rested and ready for another week.  My weekend was full of family and friends which was wonderful, except nothing got done on my to do list.  It’s going to be a busy week!!

  • The Detroit Lions: can you believe it, we are 2-0!!  They didn’t just kind of win yesterday, their 48-3 win was a trouncing.  In additional Michigan happy football news, my alma mater Western Michigan University ended a five-year drought over our biggest rival Central Michigan University with a 44-14 win.  WMU’s record is now 3-1 and that one loss was to U of M (who is also having a great year, so far, knock on wood!!) which had a final score of 34-10, not bad for little WMU against a big 10 school.
  • DVR, OnDemand, Netflix, Red Box, Hulu, Video stores, Blu-ray, DVD, VHS: goodness so much has changed.  I remember not to long ago when I would have to program my VCR to record a program.  I remember when I used to have to leave home to rent a movie.  Things just keep changing, thankfully they usually get easier in this area, but they keep changing
  • Emmy’s shmemmys: I remember when I was little and I’d sit in front of the tv with popcorn and my mom and watch dutifully every second of every award show and pageant.  Now a days, I just check on-line in the am, find a list of winners and read a little about what happened.  What was once several hours now takes just a few minutes.
  • Winter time at the Zoo: here in Michigan not all animals stay at the Zoo all winter.  Yesterday we were at a birthday party in Grand Rapids at the Zoo, so much fun!!!  I got a chance to ask the zoo folks what happens in the winter time.  Apparently some animals (who have indoor habitats) do stay all winter, others go to other zoos or they go home for the winter.  Their biggest croc is going to Florida for the winter, his owner is coming next month to pick him up and take him home.  So interesting.  We also saw the zoo kitchen, where it became apparent that most zoo animals eat better than I do.  The kitchen was full of veggies.  But it was also full of frozen mice and frozen blood.  They actually make popsicles out of blood and mice, gross!!  They also make paper mache to hold treats that the animals can rip apart.  See here for the true story of how this zoo build a meat filled paper mache zebra and placed it in the lion pen last month.

Well that’s all for this week.  Have a good one and don’t forget to fill your grocery basket with fruits and veggies, zoo animals will have nothing on me this week 🙂

Tuesday

I officially have a sinus cold.  Actually surprised this is my first of the season.  Michigan weather is famous for changing drastically and these past few weeks have given me wip lash.  I started rinsing my sinuses out with a neti pot type bottle.  I swear by the sinus rinse.  The relief is immediate and works better than anything I’ve tried.  I can’t rinse them out more than twice a day though, anything more would give the opposite effect on the sinus tissue.  It’s one of those things that is hard to try, I mean why would you want to push a bunch of water up your nose!  But once you get over the strangeness it no longer seems strange, nor feels strange.  I will also concentrate on drinking water, which I should be doing anyways (another area where I sabotage my health and weight loss, you’ll see a pattern here).

I had a great grocery day shopping yesterday.  My store was having a great sale.  Love it when things are on sale that you had on the list anyways!!  I also returned $16 worth of pop bottles.  Between coupons ($6), in store sales ($29) and store club sales ($5) I did really well.  My end total was $104, my weekly budget for that store is $100, so not bad considering all I brought home!!

The boys let me sleep in today, which was amazing!!  haven’t slept in until 8am in a long long time.

So what else will I do today???… I’d love to finish my book.  Books are my way to escape, so most of my books are read for fun and not deep thought.  You’ll find I’ll read almost anything as long as it has a bit of romance.  I don’t need a lot of romance, all though a lot is great too.  I am also an avid reader of paranormal, vampire and young adult books.  I just started a new series, which is what I needed.  There are at least 15 series on my current reading list.  This author is Jeaniene Frost and the book is Halfway to the grave.  I’m loving it and I’m at the point in the book where I have to know how it all ends, love that part!!

I also need to continue my basement review.  It’s one of the many projects I’m tackling this year.  I’ve made a lot of progress in the past week and the results are highly motivating to keep me going in the project.  I’m still in the process of going through boxes and deciding what to keep, wish me luck on making good decisions.

I also need to work, already in the middle of a few emails and problems are getting solved.

I decided not to workout this am, figuring my body needed the rest more than the workout.  Although the decision was probably a good one it breaks a pattern of working out that I just got started last week.  I’m hoping to do some pilates later today, I’ll let you know how that pans out.

Monday

My youngest (19 months) has recently become attached to a little plastic banana and a little plastic spoon.  He loves to ask me what they are called.  He drags them around all day.  If he doesn’t have them he knows where they are, too cute

Today is grocery day.  I need to go through my coupons, cut, sort and decide what I’ll need today.  I’ll also check my stores site for extra deals.  Decide what I’ll be getting from the main store and Sam’s club.  I have a spreadsheet that tracks prices at both stores, down to the quantity or ounce.  It was a pain to set up but now I know, but I have to keep it up and remember that when items go on sale it doesn’t mean that it suddenly beats the other store.  While I’m out I’ll also stop at the library, which is a weekly stop for me.  Today I’m dropping off two books and picking up one from inter-library loan.  Love my library!!!

The husband and the oldest (4 yrs) are going to the library tonight to see a magician, so exciting

I’m off to eat a sensible breakfast.  I’ve been up for over two hours.  Took care of the kids, invoiced a client, completed a report and sent that to another client, started my blog and now I’m late getting my breakfast, typical.  I break all the simple rules of weight loss, it’s easy to see why I’m not losing weight.  Well I’m going to attempt to change that, we’ll see wont we.
